Match Scores

So far, 21 annual rated team matches between the most fanatical chess players in Oklahoma and Texas.

Only four more team matches are required for this classic event to achieve Heritage status.

680 tough RRSO match games.

790 chess games overall.

351 fanatical chess players.

All players must have a current USCF membership and a regular OTB rating.

There have been three ties in the series (RRSOs XIV, XVIII, and XXI).

Because one must beat the champion to become the champion, the defending champion retains the title, trophy, and bragging rights for another year.

Oklahoma has won using the champion's tie-break all three times.

Participation

Anyone who shows up for RRSO will play chess.

Beginning with RRSO XVI (2018), the match boards are reserved for players who contact their Team Captains and commit to play (the earlier the better).  The Team Captains review and approve the Team Rosters with the Chief TD.  The official Team Match Pairings are announced at the tournament site on RRSO Day.

Everyone else plays in the Murray County Open (MCO).  However, the MCO is our Reserve. Players are moved from there to plug holes when necessary. At RRSO XVII, every single player who contacted us ("Hey, Guys. I am in!") played in the Match Section. Two walk-ins, who did not let us know early, played in the MCO because there was no time to find suitable opponents.
